Get a BIG drum. Something you can fit your body into, preferably in a sitting position. Fill the drum/tub FULL of ice, and wait for it to slowly melt, and when it's the consistancy of a nice sample of ice water, hop in with a snorkle on, or with tape over your mouth, and breathe through your nose. I know it's going to hurt, believe me, if hurts. But stay in, NO MORE then 3 minutes, and NO LESS then one (1) hour after working out. Take the deepest breaths you can. If you can't handle the three minutes, try for two, or as long as you can.
It's best to do this with at least 2 people around. They'll be able to get you out if you can't, and to rub you with towel(s) to get your blood flowing. | Easy way to get sick. I don't recommend.
I think if you're fit, you should be good enough. Everybody gets winded from fighting, even the pros. It means you're fighting hard.
When you're fighting, don't worry about your cardio or gassing out. Be in the moment and focus on the fight. I've lost alot of fights because I was too slow and worried about gassing out - then when its over, I'm like "DAMN! I could do another one!" I've also lost too many fights because I don't trust my cardio, I try to end it in KO early, fail to do so, and I end up losing on points because Im gassed in round 3.
I don't know how exactly you fight. But if you're 6'0 and 146, you got some REACH. Sharp jabs, sharp 1-2 (keep them compact, tight, fast), low kicks, middle kicks (if you want - they can catch them) and move ALOT. If you question your cardio - I'd say avoid clinch and the ground. But if you end up there, relax and work for dominant position.

Okay, so its a point based system with no strikes to the face and possibly no elbows or knees (I have yet to get the full rules). So, should I stick to the MT style striking and just punch into the chest or move around in a Savate style and strike the sides and when we get close go to dirty boxing?
TKD&TSD guys: What kind of strikes should I expect in a low level division. Do they teach high kicks at a low level (ie: Less than Black).
Thanks again guys,
-Luther

-Luther | Well, I've been in ITF Tae Kwon Do for about 2 years. Kicks that a low level, as in white, yellow, or green, will teach are front kicks, turning kicks, side kicks, downward kick, back kick. At the green levels, hook kicks, spinning hook kicks, and jumping kicks are being taught. Another style of kicking being taught to green belts are double kicks, such as a double roundhouse kick to the body and head, and double and triple side kick. Yes, they do teach high kicks, but because they are being introduce to it, it is not as common. But you also need to take into consideration that some TKD students may have a different skill level due to previous martial arts skill, or just picked up the skill of advanced kicks naturally.

I try to take everything into account, I was just wondering how often I'm going to have to protect from crazy head kicks.

Yea, and also you can expect a lot of lead leg side kicks. It is taught that use should use that as a jab, which I think is stupid because that uses too much rotation when you need to use it quick. I just stick with a front teep. Something else to expect is a lead side kick, turning back kick. On the back kick, move to his back side and hook him in the face a bit.

My fight has been postponed, so don't expect a video soon.
I'm quite frustrated.

Well, at least you have more time to train. Here's to hoping you didn't peak too early to be able to peak again.
