| I'm back in the ring, to take another swing!
Hey guys. Looks I might be getting back in the ring. There is a local Judo tournament coming up and it has a free style division. However I have not competed in a long long time. Kali and Silat do not lend themselves well to rules, so I will most likely be using BJJ/Judo and Muay Thai to win the day.
So, I need to know something:
1. How do I get fit enough to fight in 2 weeks? I'm fit, but I will get winded fast. Cardio?
2. What kind of stuff should I be practicing? On the ground and stand-up.
I will try to get a video of the fight, if I decide to do it.
EDIT: I'm experinced so don't post beginners stuff. I'm hoping for some Juno, Soul, Dearon, Pin, etc level tips. Thanks.
-Luther

Circuit train plyometrics
Alternating rounds of bag work and grappling drills. Grappling which is a lot of pulling burns your arms out for striking which is a lot of pushing, so train for it. Quote:

Also work on your clinch game, he who controls the clinch will control where the fight is fought i.e. standing or on the ground.
Good luck!

2 weeks isn't really much time to get prepared for a rule-set you're not familiar with. So really, dawg's advice should be your main focus.
All I can offer is something you probably already know, but it's still important. So I'm gonna write it down anyway.
Be sure to go in with the right mindset. Know your skills, know that you've trained. Know that you've stood before death before, so this tournament should prove no challenge you can't conquer. Every fight is a fight you can win.
Having the right mindset is still one of the most important things in a fight. You can be jacked, pumped, trained, high, stoned, fit, whatever, but if you go in a fight without thinking you can win, your chances are slim.
Good luck Luther! I look forward to seeing a vid

Train for what your gonna prepare for, dont worry about what the other is going to do, impose your game plan on him.
But if you plan on using ur bjj get your pulling/pushing muscles stronger otherwise they will burn out really fast.Swimming (front crawl for back and cardio). Chest workouts with max rep pushups so your muscles dont fatigue as quickly.
I never suggest running because i cant stand running but if your cool with running do it.
Grappling, go for constant rolls, just wrestle to position for a few rounds so you can get your gas tank up and are used to the constant movement.
A FUCK LOAD OF SHADOW BOXING/BAG WORK, constant movement burn your calfs up so if your fighting someone who is agressive your legs wont burn up.
2 weeks isnt rly a long time lol, just get alot of exersise in and for the love of god DONT DO LEGS AT LEAST 3 DAYS BEFOE YOUR COMPETE.

hey ive been in ur position before ive taken fights a lil bit less than 2 weeks notice
like most people said, use ur knowledge and experience and apply it properly
there is no time to learn new skills
prepare yourself mentally and physically
personally i dont recommend any weight lifting
uhm the first week u gotta give it all, to get ur cardio up
Heavybag work
some light sparring and body conditioning like sit ups, push ups, a session of plyometrics
the next week dont get too stressed out this was my mistake
dont feel like u are slacking off seriously its better to have "missed" some training that actually "overtrained", it shows in ur performance in the end a fully rested body will do much better than one that has been training non stop a week before a fight
have a game plan and imagine ur situations, asses ur strenghts and weaknesses
i repeat it improving ur cardio is a must

Your best bet is to do more sparring/rolling
More live practice. Do your running or whatever, but you'll need that live practice.
Not only is the cardio sports specific, you also train the technique too.

Update. They sent me the wrong date. I have ONE week. ONE. I'm gonna go for light runs and try to find someone at the college to spar with. I'm either gonna destroy everybody or get KO'd in the first minute.

If you want Cardio fast... Here's what I do...
Get a BIG drum. Something you can fit your body into, preferably in a sitting position. Fill the drum/tub FULL of ice, and wait for it to slowly melt, and when it's the consistancy of a nice sample of ice water, hop in with a snorkle on, or with tape over your mouth, and breathe through your nose. I know it's going to hurt, believe me, if hurts. But stay in, NO MORE then 3 minutes, and NO LESS then one (1) hour after working out. Take the deepest breaths you can. If you can't handle the three minutes, try for two, or as long as you can.
It's best to do this with at least 2 people around. They'll be able to get you out if you can't, and to rub you with towel(s) to get your blood flowing.
