| Competing in March?
I'm gonna compete in Henry Cho's open tournament in March. It is an open tournament for Karate, Tae Kwon Do, and Kung Fu. I am defiantly sparring. My plan for the tourney is to go out of my style, Tae Kwon Do ITF, and try more of a brawling style. What are some good hand techniques to practice on the Asian styles? I am sure they love to kick, so what are ways to counter punch my way out of it? Thanks!

uhm well i did taekwondo as well adn alot of it is kicks man haha so i'm not entirely sure sometimes in a sparring session a good thing to do is parry and block until you see an opening and destroy them with points that way other wise get in on them block their stuff its gonna be alot of fancy kicks tho so watch it haha

They throw an axe kick, you move back and puch them.
They turning kick you, move with the blow and if you know how to, throw a spinning hook kick.
They lean in to try and punch you, sidestep and kick them in the stomach.
YES! TKD people usually ALWAYS throw kicks. The only time they throw punches, is if they are in close. If you are good at punching, get in close. They don't focus on punching, much of the time. They will usually do all these fancy techniques with spins, jumps, leaps etc.
Sorry, I don't know any Asian hand to hand techniques. If you want to know, just try looking some up online.
Hope this helps.

I really dont like your idea of brawling
I kinda like Time fighter's tips. But there are other and better things you can do.
Axe kick: move to the side and low kick
Turning: Step in while their back is turned
Punch: Body kick them
SSchwitz - I don't think you are experienced enough to keep your cool and follow any tips we tell you.

I like your ideas, Soul. Though I have taken TKD for almost my whole life so far. Do they allow any low kicks, grappling, submissions, etc? I don't think Karate, TKD and Kung Fu allow low kicks. Depends on the tournament.
Can you give us more info about this? I think we then could help you more.

Can you give us more info about this? I think we then could help you more. | In these martial arts, you don't do low kicks, grapples, or submissions, it is somewhat like a K-1 fight. Just hands and feet. And thank you very much for your tips, helpful! Quote:
