Mackens Semerzier Vs. Anthony Morrison Likely For WEC 48
MMAJunkie.com is reporting that featherweights Mackens "Da Menace" Semerzier (5-1) and Anthony "Cheesesteak" Morrison (15-8) will square off on the preliminary card portion of the WEC 48 pay-per-view broadcast.
The fighters have both verbally agreed to face each other and bout agreements are expected to be signed shortly.
Semerzier, a Miami native and former Marine, gained widespread notoriety when he defeated Brazilian Jiu-jitsu ace Wagnney Fabiano by triangle-choke submission in the first round of his first appearance in the WEC. Sherdog.com awarded the fight "Upset of the Year" for 2009. "Da Menace" stumbled in his last outing against Deividas Taurosevicius, losing a unanimous decision in a bout that was much closer than the scores indicated; with Semerzier threatening to finish on several occasions in the fight. Semerzier fights out of Linxx Academy of Martial Arts in Virginia Beach, VA.
Also fighting out of Virginia (Morrison hails from and fights out of Richmond, VA) is "Cheesesteak"; a man who also faced a stiff test in his WEC debut in former featherweight champion Mike Thomas Brown. Morrison did not fare as well, losing by rear naked choke in the first round. Morrison has spent a lot of time in the cage, owning 23 total professional MMA fights and having fought (and lost) against notables Jim Miller and Deividas Taurosevicius.
The battle of Virginians will take place at WEC 48 Aldo Vs. Faber", the WEC's first pay-per-view show. The fight card goes down in Sacramento, CA at the ARCO Arena on April 24th. |
