Again a thread on request of my father.
He wants to know how many different styles of pencak silat you all know, and which one do you think is the most effective one?
My father And I personaly train Pencak Silat Pukulan Betawi, this style has relative high stances and mainly uses fast punches and dirty fighting to overcome your opponent.

But anyone who has studied any Silat for any amount of time can tell you there are too many styles to count. Probably 1,000s.

why are there so many styles?? its the same with kung fu

its confusing which style you should choose as a rule of thumb if your wanting to be trained by a good teacher then its better to go for the style that is the oldest or close to the martial arts purest form.

Then again there are some good teachers with a modern prospective.............its so confuseing when theirs so many styles....

Look for blended styles like Maphilindo, although there are only a handful of places that teach that style.

the reason there are so many styles is because each small island and tribe developed their own style and variant of Silat.

well that is confusing, in the Netherlands when we talk about Silat we mean pencak Silat. But you practice other silat? Yeah I know there are a lot of styles I was just wondering if there are silat players on ft and if they can talk about there silat.
