| Basic first aid for after the fight
Disclaimer: Please note that this article is meant only to be used as a fallback guide. Always seek the advice and help of a medical professional, especially in the result of a severe injury.
Also, I'm not responsible for any unfortunate consequences resulting from use of this guide. Use my advice at your own risk, and don't blame me if something doesn't work or you just hurt yourself more.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, on to the article.
Fighting is of course a high-risk activity, and it's pretty much inevitable you will leave a fight with some form of injury, whether it's just a bruise or a fairly serious concussion. This guide will cover some simple things you can do after the fight (when you're certain the danger is gone and you're at a safe place) before you can make it to the doctor's office. If you have ANY doubts about how successful your treatment of an injured person will be, whether it's yourself or somebody else, it's better to do nothing. This unprofessional guide is no substitute for actual medical care from certified professionals. Broken/knocked out tooth
A dental injury is generally not very serious, life or death wise. Everybody's lost a tooth naturally, but losing one before it's ready to go, or losing an adult tooth, can cause some expensive dental surgery to fix your smile.
First off, get the tooth. If it's still swimming around in your mouth, take it out carefully, handling it by the crown (the chewing part). If possible, stick it back in the socket it came out of and bite down gently to hold it in place. If this is not possible, find some kind of small container and spit in it (or use whole milk if there's any around), then place the tooth inside. You may also wish to apply direct pressure with some clean cloth/gauze/paper towel/etc. to help the clotting process.
Next, get to a dentist immediately. The sooner you act, the better chance of saving your tooth.
If the tooth is chipped, treat it with the same care as with a knocked out tooth and transport the chipped piece the same way. If your tooth's inner nerves are exposed, get to a dentist ASAP to avoid infections. This can lead to very unpleasant things such excruciating pain and abscesses. Swelling
Unless it's swelling of the brain or something along those lines, swelling is generally just painful and not serious. However, it's still a good idea to treat it. Simply applying gentle, cold pressure with anything in your freezer will bring the swelling down. You can also take some over-the-counter anti-inflammatory such as aspirin. This will also help with the pain. Cuts
People get cuts daily, and to be honest, if you leave a cut alone it'll probably heal up on it's own just fine. If you're scrapping with someone and the cut is a result of a bite or a fingernail scratch, however, it can become infected quickly and become a nuisance.
Apply pressure with something clean, even your hand*, except not gauze unless the wound is more like a gash - gauze sticks to things and can reopen it if you're not careful. (*Note that stemming the bleeding of another can get you sick)
Lift the cut area above the chest if possible, as well. It will slow blood flow to the area.
Once the wound has stopped bleeding, put something with disinfectant on it, like Neosporin.
After it's dried, but a bandage over it.
Addendum: severe cuts where the bleeding is profuse, perhaps caused by a weapon, require immediate transportation to a hospital, although there are steps you can take to help out the injured person.
However, DO NOT make a tourniquet by tying something above the wound - this can lead to necrosis of the tissue and the person can lose their limb. Bloody nose
Plug the nostril that is bleeding snugly, but not uncomfortably so. Pinch the base of the cartilage in your nose for about two minutes and check to see if there's still bleeding. Be careful not to hit your nose for awhile after or you might have to repeat the process. Broken/fractured/dislocated bones
Everybody's seen the Hollywood badass snap his arm back into place like nothing and just walk it off. That's the WORST thing you can do.
Always be careful not to cause more damage than you help with this type of injury.
Call 911, or whatever your emergency number is. Stabilize the affected limb with padding of some sort and make sure it doesn't move.
Put some ice in a bag over the wound, but be very, very gentle. Give the injured some ibuprofen or naproxen to help with the pain.
If possible, elevate the afflicted wound slightly to help with any swelling that will probably occur.
When the ambulance or medical professional shows up, listen to what they say and get out of their way. Head injuries (including knockouts)
Injuries to the head are very dangerous. Since the head houses the brain, and the brain is pretty fucking important, it's best to do nothing but call 911 if the injury is severe.
If the person is conscious: try to keep them responsive and alert. Ask them what hurts and how they feel. If they're not responding or not making any sense, they may have a concussion, in which case you need to keep them still and try to keep them talking.
(Case in point: My teacher's daughter hit her head and was knocked out for a few, then got up and walked around like nothing, but kept asking the time repeatedly and was very confused. She was also speaking complete nonsense, although appeared to be otherwise fine. She later passed out again and they found she had a severe concussion from her fall.)
If the person is out cold or not all there: Try to get their attention, do the whole "how many fingers am I holding up?" thing, etc. DO NOT MOVE THEM in case they have a neck injury as well.
An important and simple test to gauge the severity of a head injury is to check for bleeding beneath the skull. If you have a flashlight on hand, shine it into both eyes. If the pupils dilate, then they're most likely not too seriously injured under the skull. If they don't dilate, there's a good chance there is bleeding beneath the skull, a very serious injury. You can also do this by simply having them open and close their eyes, although it's less accurate then with a brighter light.
Remember, it's always better to be safe than sorry. If you think the injury is severe enough, or if you even have doubts, get the injured to the ER or a doctor.

LIKE REAL BAD?" over, and over, and over again.
Awesome post, Sithis.

Thanks everyone.
Yeah, this is an original work. I got a little bored during my short vacation and thought "You know what fighttips could use? A guide on fixing themselves up after they beat each other down."
The guide took me, including interruptions, only about two hours.
