Yeah... I fenced for 6 solid years. Now I never did much foil fencing, about a month (that's 4 training sessions) in the beginning of my fencing study. But excluding the teacher, I can win everyone on my current club on foil without getting hit. It's more about knowing the game than the actual use of a certain weapon.

So I'd say the same goes for the weapon classes. Even if you won't find people with halberds, swords and clubs on the street, knowing how weapons work is a great help. You don't have to use the weapon once you've learned how, it's the philosophy. The mindset. Knowing the idea behind weaponry in general is half the way to knowing how to defend yourself against them. Training with the weapon you hope to defend against is the other half.

So in short, I'd say go for it

Yeah, persistence always pays off in martial arts. There's always that moment you feel like you don't want to continue, but it's the guys that go on anyway that actually make it somewhere.

I started fencing again, after an 8 month hiatus. But I'm also considering dropping that, and taking up another Wing Chun class on weekdays from my teacher's teacher. I'm not sure yet.

Yeah? That's great news, man. Hope you'll pull through. A friend of mine started kickboxing, finally leaving the "I-can-learn-how-to-fight-by-watching-anime"-stage behind. But he quit within the month. So sad, so sad...

    Anyway, best of luck there!

Just a reminder: Expertise should be given out only when a member give great fight advice. If they say something funny or nice, give them a plus rep, not an expertise.

    Thanks!
