Gorilla's Detailed Training Log
4 weeks in MMA
I’ve done 4 weeks of MMA so far and am really enjoying it. I’ve made some progress in Fitness. I’ll start with my running. Since I’ve done MMA I can run slightly faster than I could before. I can also run and jog for longer without getting tired. When we warm up I’m still finding it hard to keep up with the more experienced people. I’m guessing it’s because they have been doing it longer and I wasn’t in very good shape to start off with and still am not as good as I would like to be. However my running is improving I still have a long way to reach my full potential.
My strength has gotten better. I am now able to do one chin up. This isn’t a lot compared to most people, but it is an improvement. My abs and neck are very strong. since I’ve done MMA getting over the highest score in the sit-up test which is 80, however I did 100 to test myself. I’m still doing push-ups on my knees at the moment. I’m sure after I get fitter and push-ups on my knees become very easy I will move up to my toes.
I’ve learnt a lot after 4 weeks. Such as submissions, kicks, punches and knees. My punching is very good and I have taking a liking to kicks. I can kick quite high even though I’m not very flexible, however that has increased too. My friend Harley that I partner up with most of the time can’t kick high and his left leg is very weak. His right leg on the other hand seems more powerful than my right leg, yet my leg is stronger than his. Out kicking him has been my goal and I’ve been practising on my boxing bag. Knees are the hardest in my opinion, but I’m getting used to them as I practise at home. A lot of the time a pain at the back of my knee hurts whenever I knee or bend my leg. This has never happened before and I’m hoping to will stop by next class. Submissions and takedowns have been fun to learn. I’m pretty good at the double leg takedown but every time I go down to the ground after I take Harley down his knee seems to hit my thighs or gut. I’m hoping to fix this in my next lesson. Clinch grapping is tricky because Harley is so good at it, i’ll going to make it my goal to beat him next class.
All in all it’s been very beneficial. I would like to do Muay Thai too but my mum doesn’t want to go 5 nights a week. I’ve told her the next Muay Thai classes start next school term so she will have 5-7 weeks to get stronger after her toe op and still no.
Next log update in 4 weeks.
