| Russian Judo or Japanese Judo
Fuck i wish Chexmix was still in the forums...
cuz i got a question for him, maybe u guys can help me XD
well ive been training a bit of judo at my university but its the traditional japanese judo, this semester i met a russian guy and anyways the topic of martial arts came up of course along with Fedor, sambo and well... Judo
it turns out hes a black belt in Russian Judo and has some training in Sambo
so i decided to take him to the classes, but he wasnt very convinced after the classes
so we decided to just spar on our own the next day
and let me tell u something it is a very big resemblance to fedor's style and i learned so many tricks from this guy that i can apply in mma and bjj like throws holding the neck and also holding the belt (im not sure if they penalized in bjj comps but in olympic judo u can only do it at the moment of the throw u cant be having a grip on it like the collar or sleeves all the time) cuz ive never seen in bjj comp a guy holding the other belt since it has practically no purpose? and man the throws from the underhooks are so cool
not as graceful as the traditional but fuk that right? XD i just want to slam ppl HARD XD
also i was curious about this and checked Karo Parisyans DVD its really interesting, but oh well GSP beated him hahaha i still train once in a while with the wrestling team but iono im starting to like judo more

The RJ seems pretty dominate but do what you feel. Or why not train both? The basics are all the same aren't they? Or not? I have only fought one judoka before. And he sucked but I don't know what he trained.

sparr with the russian fellow as much as you can. it's a fantastic style. they are both good in there own way but for the mma/bjj style u have, russian judo would complement it much more.
the belt hold it allowed for 5 seconds. i keep my hand close enough to grasp it quickly but away enough to see i do not have the hold in place.
