Default Power Punching?

I don't know if this is a thread or not, but I am too lazy to look, and I'd like to see some new, updated answers.

What are some of the best ways to train your power punching? I mean to train the punches that'll knock someone out with a clean shot. What are the best ways to train and perform the shots? Thanks!

I train on the heavy bag. Performing good power shots with consistency and accuracy can only come from performing power punches. Just do the same combination/set up/power punch over and over and over on a heavy bag till if feel like you are confident it would break someone in half. (of course with proper technique).

On the side however it would be beneficial to increase muscle mass and fast twitch muscles development via plyometrics to help increase increase speed and force. But ultimately the act of punching itself is what will help the most. Drill drill drill the same punches over and over until it becomes second nature.

My best power punch, for instance, is my left body hook, but it would never land unless I had a set up or a good feint. So I always practice a Jab-cross-left hook set up over and over. Sometimes I mix it up with a jab feint-cross-left hook or a jab-cross feint-left hook just to make space and draw away the guard from the body. So it makes sense to practice your set up to the power punch as well, not just that single punch.

Just remember that Technique Is King. You'll never maximize your power punching abilities without knowing proper technique.

Jumping push ups, medicine ball passes, medicine ball push up variations, shot puts, etc....

Using fast explosive movements while under a load. Check Your Top Source For Free Boxing Training Advice for videos and for specifics.

Here's Ross's compilation video. With exception to the jump roping, much of what is glossed over here is useful for building both power and speed. You can get some ideas where to start with this video but I recommend checking out his site for a better understanding why these are specifically better workouts for power, speed, and boxing specifically.

Things that aren't included are his heavy bag workouts. Check his site for those.
