| Toughening shins?
Hey guys, I've recently started practicing muay thai, and I've been hearing alot of different things on how to toughen your shins. Some people say it's just a waste of time, since your shins will naturally toughen on the targets you kick. But others are all for it. I know the fighters in Thailand kick banana trees, and some of the guys I know use a roller pin on their shins. I don't know why to make of it all. What do you guys think?

If you kick a heavy bag hard enough often it will toughen your shins whilst your practicing, don't worry about it too much.

Use a Makawara stick, that always seems to work for me.
A large, thick pole would also do. Start light, then work your way up. You can also kick stuff really hard. That's also good conditioning aswell.

I like to find the skinniest bag I can find and kick at the lowest part. Its usually very hard there. I've been doing that for years and I still bruise up.

I use a heavy bag. Like Kwonkicker said in one of his videos, through repeated trauma, the bones will react and become more dense and powerful.

Just what they said. I recommend doing middle kicks on higher bags (not the banana bags) and aiming towards the bottom where its hard
