Default What if a righty uses a southpaw stance?

i always wondered if someone does this, i sometimes switch stance to set some specific combos but rather than that i stay in orthodox because i was taught that way... and ive never heard of a fighter (or know of) that IS orthodox and fights with southpaw stance

i know that thailand has a lot of southpaws but are they all lefties?

and if u notice many of the greatest fighters are left handed (and southpaw)

Manny pacquiao (box pfp best), Yodsanklai Fairtex (muay thai lumpinee champ contender asia winner and shit this guy is tough), Anderson Silva (mma pnp best fighter) Andy Hug (k-1 karate legend) giorgio petrosyan (k1 max beated souwer) mirko cro cop (pride champ) Saenchai sor kingstar (another muay thai living legend (he beated orono who beated yodsanklai, twice) oh yeah and de la hoya is also left handed right?

what are ur opinions?

You mean stay that way or comfortable swtiching stance, cuz everytime I train I put a lot of emphasis in learning everything from everywhere.

I think it's helpful and it cuts down time if you're able to switch and throw both, but if you're just staying in one? I guess it's however you feel comfortable fighting.

to be honest its probably too late for you daeron, unless you want to start all over with a southpaw stance. you would probably have a real hard jab though and being a southpaw itd be hard for opponents to handle you.. or if you switch it up during a fight, thatd make it even harder. idk if its worth it, but if you wanted to try to fight southpaw start practicing. if not, learn how to beat a southpaw while you use your orthodox. doesnt matter what hand you are when you fight, all that matters is if you can beat people regardless of what hand they use. just learn to beat southpaws instead of starting fresh

p.s IM SOUTHPAW and i wouldnt recommend you restarting when you could just stay orthodox and learn to beat a southpaw.

yeah i know... thats what my trainer said at first, but he also mentioned really good fighters can fight in both stances but i dont want to teach u that now it would only end up making u cross legs and look fucking clumsy while fighting...

Now for the advanced class hes making us switch stance in case ur left leg is soo beaten down by low kicks (wich has never happened yet i have pretty strong thighs, i mean they hurt but not to the point i have to switch) and ive done rounds of heavybag in southpaw...

my left kick is stronger than my right kick (wich allows to kick harder the inner thigh) and i throw much more left hooks in sparring that right hooks, also for body shots i throw the left body uppercut i aim left cuz thats were the liver is...

its hard to get used to, and yeah toxic i meant stay there, and BE comfortable with it

Whenever I shadowbox or hit my bag southpaw, my side always feels like my spine is gonna snap when I throw a hit with my left hand, and , and it seems to be impossible to make a left leg kick on a bag, although I don't have much trouble with kicks shadow boxing.

KID Yamamoto's another one
Jerome LeBanner because of his JKD background when he was younger

At the boxing gym I trained at, they taught guys to switch up. Even the Wiz - the boxing coach at Daddis has guys mix it up.

I think when you get comfortable with it normally, switching up is easy.

Just like in sports like basketball and soccer were all the good players use both feet/hands. It's useful to switch.
With that said practice makes perfect, I practice some combos which purposely involve switching stance or setting up the position to switch stance.

Oscar de la Hoya doesn't use South Paw stance....he's famous for his lead left hook. But on the other hand Mike Tyson is left handed but he opts for the orthodox stance..

Isn't Manny a right hander that fights left handed?
