Re: Spinning Hooks
In addition to what TimeFighter said:
-when you perform a spin kick you should be able to trace a straight line from your foot to your torso. A bend in the line, for instance, at the hip, will cause a lot of the energy to be lost and a reduction in impact stiffness.
-Don't look at the target as you hit it. By turning your shoulders and neck around to peek at your target you will mess up your form. Once you execute the kick, it should be fast enough that you don't have to look, your target should still be where it was before you started kicking. Finally you should be able to accurately hit the target with out looking at it. Just practice.
-Foot positioning is very important. Since i couldn't see it in the video it's hard to tell if you are doing it with maximum potential. But always spin on your toes, not your heels. You can't control your balance with your heels, and doesn't lend itself to good recovery. And if you are kicking with you hips properly, the toes of your supporting foot should be facing opposite of the target.
-small tip: This kick is best used as a counter, and should never be used as a forward wind up because it'll never land, as it's too obvious. But utilized while backing up, or as a counter to your opponents kick it can be timed for devastating effect.
Try to improve your speed, IMO they are a tad slow. It's going to be hard to land them on someone unless they have surprisingly fast execution.
