Re: my thought to weapons
I guess it might be weak to use a weapon in a "fair fight" with implied rules of "no weapons" amongst other things. Personally, I won't ever be in such a fight. Any time I'm in a fight it will be because the situation could not be avoided and I have no choice but to get seriously injured (or even killed) or fight back in the hopes of surviving intact. Given that, you better believe I'll happily use whatever it takes, and I won't feel the least bit ashamed of it.
This macho notion of fighting you seem to have is seriously misguided. If you want to fight with rules, start some sort of sport fighting. If you're worried about being attacked, learn to defend yourself as best you can. Under no circumstances should you be engaging in some stupid, macho street fight. If/when you do, rest assured that the other guy might have different rules in mind than you do.
And if you get jumped? Well, you're likely screwed. People don't jump you for a fair fight. They jump you to catch you at a disadvantage. Those are exactly the sorts of times a weapon makes sense to level the playing field so you have a chance to survive.
Peace.
