The problem is nunchucks often just hurt the person using them, I used my foam nunchucks and hit my BOB bag a few times (silly I know) and they just pretty much bounced off, hit my arms.

Let's look at the positive sides, too. I've heard too many times, hat nunchakus are useless, unless you are an expert with them. However, you get so much momentum and leverage in a swing, you could do a ton of damage with them. I remember I hit myself in the leg pretty hard, just playing with them, and my leg went numb.

I've heard that some police officers (California?) have nunchakus instead of batons. I don't know how true it is, though. These are weapons made for fighting, so overall, yeah they would be effective in a fight. Don't forget you can choke with them, too.

I do not totally agree with those opinions. when I first trained with nun chucks i was required to use ones with soft sticks becouse it is true that especially when training you hit yourself many times. There is a certain way of striking becouse when you hit for example a heavy bag wrong. The chucks will come back with high speed directed to your body. It isn't easy to learn but when your starting to become good with them it's easy to defeat an enemy with some hard strikes . Becouse you spin them really fast you can hit every time every moment. When your skilled with the nunchuck it is a deadly weapon for sure.

I think nunchakas are cool like a claymore is cool but hardly particle in today’s world. You need space to use nunchakas so when in elevators, stairwells, automobiles, hallways and other confining places a nunchakas can’t be used nearly as effectively as when in an open space. If I lived in medieval Japan and spent my days in a rice paddy I would think differently. But I live in the 21st century and I believe my time is better spent developing my empty hand skills rather than trying to be proficient enough with nunchakas so I don’t hurt myself.

..i dunno about you but if i'm working the paddys, i've already got kamas in my hands, i'd take em any day over nunchuks.

1) even the most unskilled person can wind back, whip and inflict some serious damage, especially if you've got chain and iron/steel nunchucks.
2)close quarter you don't need to swing, you can use them, to bash with the butt end, little skill involved again. More advanced you can choke, use to wrap a limb for a break move/submission/pain compliance technique.
3) intimidation factor. Keep your distance and don't whack yoursellf, your opponent is gonna think twice.

If you can carry them legally, by all means do.

nunchucks are very high wepons if you have skill for them
try to make a mini nunchucks i dont think your going out with big once
items needed 2 iron pices a chain hot glue or nails and black spray maybe optional

ive got a pair and i havent mastered it yet so far there pointless in a fight for me they onbly look good in movies in my opinion if you dont hit with the tip of the numchuck it will come flying back at you 70% of the time you will do more damage to your self then your oppenent unless your really experienced

nunchuks can actually generate up to 1,600 pounds of pressure per square inch and it only takes 8 pounds of pressure to break the human arm
