Re: How useful are nunchucks really?
"when I first trained with nun chucks i was required to use ones with soft sticks"
Same here, only the soft ones flop around a lot easier than real ones so the motion is different. I learned with aluminum nunchuks. I banged my elbows a few times but haven't done any permanent damage. Like everyone else has said, it's hard to control them from bouncing off something other than yourself. You can bounce them off your leg/back/whatever and roll your hips to keep the chain at full extension so the other end doesn't flop around. I don't carry them around since they're big and make a lot of noise when I'm walking around, but they're great for training your arms.
"nunchuks can actually generate up to 1,600 pounds of pressure per square inch and it only takes 8 pounds of pressure to break the human arm"
That's asinine and I'm pretty sure I don't even need to explain why.

Like behind the elbow. When somethings holding your wrist.
But if you apply 8 pounds of force to the middle of my forearm the only way you can break it is if an 8 pound weight was launched out a cannon.

If someone threw it at you that would probably be enough force. But considering boxers punch at least 500-600 psi on average, they'd be shattering their arms anytime they threw a punch IF it was anywhere on the arm.
