Definitely not something i recommend but you can hide a padlock and chain in socks or a bag full of rocks other wise something you normally can carry I'd go with maybe a large hardcover textbook or a glass bottle or maybe if you can throw dirt in their eyes

Ha ha, yea I can picture a guy walking down the street with a chemistry textbook and say it is for self defense, xD. But all kidding aside, those are pretty good weapon choices.
