Your profile says you are from Hawaii. The law there is:
"§134-51 Deadly weapons; prohibitions; penalty.
(a) Any person, not authorized by law, who carries
concealed upon the person's self or within any vehicle
used or occupied by the person or who is found armed
with any dirk, dagger, blackjack, slug shot, billy,
metal knuckles, pistol, or other deadly or dangerous
weapon shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and may be
immediately arrested without warrant by any sheriff,
police officer, or other officer or person. Any weapon,
above enumerated, upon conviction of the one carrying
or possessing it under this section, shall be summarily
destroyed by the chief of police or sheriff."
| First, a "dirk" and "dagger" are identifiable by type, length and usage. These two are identified by being combative in nature, over 4 and a half inches, or being double edged. A 3 inch folding utility knife is does not qualify for any of those, thereby making it legal. (Classifiable as a "utility knife")
Gun laws are according to legality of course, open carry, and registered. The rest of course are illegal. Quote: |
These two statements seem to contradict each other.
| No they don't. I said Muggers want money. Truly evil people are willing to maim and kill you despite giving money or items. Sometimes it's hard to tell before it's too late. Quote: |
Does ANYONE think that it might be a good idea to have a sticky in the weapons forum that outlines the dangers of weapons and how un-hollywood they are. I just dont want any kids reading in the forum then thinking its okay to try and take a person with a weapon.

Based on personal safety, I'd have to assume everyone at first of being dangerous. I think mistake is on the part of the person who doesn't see the mugger, who in actuality WILL kill you, as dangerous

As a bit of a cynic, I've come to find people don't genuinely seek things that will help them, and if they really did want advice, they'd have found it with or without us.
People here really do need to understand a weapon doesn't make you cool, and it doesn't even increase your chances in a fight. Just like with your hands or your feet, you have to know how to use it effectively before you hope to get any gain out of it. And any weapon you use, whether it be blades, blunt objects, or your own body parts, "knowing how to use it effectively" means training, not watching ufc and buying tapout shirts, not watching Jean Claude marathons on USA Network, not listening to your gangbanger friend who thinks he knows shit cuz he beats up people who know how to fight even less than him. Seek help in your fighting or you'll end up seeking help medically.

I'm in favor of a thread like that. Even if only 3 people read it, it's still 3 people. That's got to be worth something.

Neos right, at least the thread will be there, its the message that needs to be put across that needs real thought.
If its just a sticky that when you look at it, it just tells you knifes are bad, then no one will listen, no one.
Everyone, even the hardcore gangster knows that he shouldnt have a knife but he wants it so it wont change his mind.
Also the sticky cant just list facts on knife crime, I know I may be an execption but looking at a large list of stats and figures isnt really very fun.
So all Im saying is yes, its a good idea but the content needs to be thought about.
However I dont think it will make much change, its good for the consiense to have the sticky but Im not sure if many people will suddenly repent their sins are stop taking around knives because of a thread on a fight forum.

There's a targeting system. If two people are fighting with knives, a popular result is one person will go for what they think is a kill, and sure if the guy doesn't seek medical help soon, he might die, but you know what's going to happen when you stab him? He's still going to finish his motion, which is going to be stabbing you right back. Even if you hit prepicked targets, they're still not going to die immediately, you're just limiting the time they have to get to a hospital. It's important that a martial art ALWAYS focus on NOT how to damage an opponent, but how to stop an opponent from damaging you.

That is one of the fundemental's of Kali. You have to remove the ability to do damage. Killing comes in second place.
