Bet on Kimbo vs Tank

Kimbo Slice is the alias of Kevin Ferguson, a bodyguard for pornographic-film company In the VIP. Kimbo has gained sudden internet infamy as a Miami street fighter for his six homemade videos, beginning in 2004. He is cousin to Olympic judoka Rhadi Ferguson.

Kimbo vs. Byrd/Kimbo vs. Big D

The original Kimbo fight, which took place in Leonard Byrd's Miami backyard, hit the internet in 2003. This was the beginning of Kimbo's stardom, but little was actually explained; Kimbo hadn't yet been named (the spectators can be heard yelling, "Get 'em Ferg!", "Ferg" being short for Ferguson), and the video was seen only as another street fight caught on tape, although arguably more brutal than the average internet fight video. Due to the notorious damage to Byrd's eye, and the catchy "All day, all day" and "That's how a nigga eat" quotes, the video commanded mass internet attention and controversy. (Byrd is also called "Big D" by Sublime Directory, a company affiliated with Kimbo.)

Kimbo vs. Gannon

The video spread to countless internet MMA forums, eventually making its way to the MMA.tv website, where Boston police officer and amateur MMA fighter Sean Gannon noticed it. As the legend goes, Gannon saw the video, thought little of Kimbo's skills, and challenged him. The fight took place in an undisclosed, makeshift sparring location. Gannon defeated Kimbo by KO after ten minutes, making it Kimbo's only recorded loss. Both fighters were fatigued to the point of collapsing, and Gannon's face was brutally mangled. Reportedly, the spread of this video prompted the UFC to invite Sean Gannon to UFC 43, and leading up to Gannon's match, commentator Joe Rogan mentioned several times Kimbo Slice, the video of the Kimbo vs. Gannon fight, and its internet attention. This in turn built greater intrigue around the Kimbo fights.

As seen during the video, there was much controversy over the fight's rules, particularly when Sean Gannon attempted a guillotine choke. It's known that Kimbo only accepts stand-up, bareknuckle boxing bouts.
It was rumored before now that a fight with Kimbo required a $10,000 bet from both sides. On the MMA.tv boards, Gannon hinted at this, saying, "Anyone who enjoyed the fight should kick him a little something. He earned it." A post from Kimbo's management, Southbeat Records, also mentioned a wager of ten thousand dollars, and added that a challenger need not have any fighting experience, only money to bet.

Kimbo vs. Dreadlocks/Kimbo vs. Rasta

Several months later, the third Kimbo fight appeared and featured Kimbo fighting a dreadlocked-Rastafarian character, a match Kimbo won with little effort. The fight was filmed in the privacy of a deserted boatyard, imaginably somewhere in Miami.

Kimbo vs. Afro Puff and Kimbo vs. Big Mac

In December of 2006, a fourth Kimbo Slice video surfaced. Again at the boatyard, Kimbo this time fought two opponents in a row: first Afro Puff, a larger fighter characterized by a sizable afro who showed little response to Kimbo's aggressiveness, and then Big Mac who, although more energetic, was easily knocked down multiple times. Bic Mac continued fighting until he was visibly dazed and the referee ended the fight by TKO.

Kimbo vs. Adryan

In late December of 2006, the fifth Kimbo fight pitted Kimbo against a bodybuilder named Adryan. This fight was another held between the fences of a backyard, and ended quickly when Adryan attempted to quit the fight but was punched by Kimbo from behind.

Kimbo vs. The Bouncer

March of 2007 brought the sixth Kimbo match against an opponent called The Bouncer. This fight took place in another backyard like the previous video. Controversy stirred when The Bouncer purportedly stepped on the shoe of Kimbo, causing Kimbo to fall, and then aggressively continuing his attack before Kimbo was allowed to stand up. Kimbo recovered immediately and went on to win the match for a documented record of 6-1-0.

Kimbo vs. Chico

Just before Kimbo's MMA premiere, the eighth Kimbo fight was released in early June 2007. Kimbo fought Chico Grande, who proved the greatest challenge to Kimbo since Gannon, even knocking Kimbo once onto his stomach.

Kimbo in MMA

Kimbo had been training with MMA fighter Charles "Chainsaw" Mccarthy in what was expected to be an MMA or Muay Thai debut. Kimbo has been seen on video with Mccarthy as early as February of 2005.

Kimbo spent two weeks in California at Bas Rutten's gym in preparation for his fight against Ray Mercer.

Kimbo vs. Ray Mercer

On March 20th, 2007, Jim Genia of Full Contact Fighter reported Kimbo's MMA debut would take place on June 16th, 2007 against professional boxer and Olympic gold-medalist Ray Mercer. (The fight was soon rescheduled for June 23rd.) This match was the headlining bout for the Cage Fury Fighting Championship 5 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Kimbo vs. Tank Abbott

Kimbo's next sanctioned MMA opponent is rumored to be Tank Abbott in CFFC 6 on September 14th, 2007.

New Kimbo Fights?

Former-UFC fighter Paul Buentello (AKA 'The Headhunter') expressed interest in fighting Kimbo in early 2007. In an article for MMAWeekly.com, Buentello had this to say:

“They’re in negotiations.” [Kimbo's and Buentello's managements] Paul continued, “I would say it’s probably about 60/40 right now. 60 percent chance of us getting into a fight and broadcasting it somehow or another.”
